It's built for a first Gulf visit where you want to compare the region's capitals rather than commit to one, and it deliberately stays out of Oman's interior and the Musandam fjords, both of which are better done as their own dedicated trip.

Skip / overrated: Skip a dedicated desert-safari day here if your itinerary is tight - the dunes, camel rides and BBQ-dinner format are close to identical to what's sold everywhere in the Gulf, and you'll get a better version of it, uncrowded, in Wahiba Sands if you ever do the Oman interior loop separately.

2 nightsThe UAE capital and its cultural counterweight to Dubai: the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque's white marble and inlaid courtyard, Louvre Abu Dhabi's dome of light on Saadiyat Island, and the corniche at sunset. A short, easy hop or drive from Dubai.
Skip / overrated: Yas Island's theme parks (Ferrari World, Warner Bros World) are a full day each and compete directly with the museums for time - worth it with kids, skippable on a culture-focused run.

Muscat
2 nightsThe quietest and most traditional of the four - low-rise, white against the Hajar foothills, with none of the megatower skyline of the others. Mutrah's corniche and covered souq, the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, and the twin Portuguese-built forts (Mirani and Jalali) guarding the old harbour give it a distinctly older-Arabia feel.
Skip / overrated: The Grand Mosque admits non-Muslim visitors mornings only (typically 8am-11am) and closes to visitors on Fridays - build the day around that window; don't treat it as a drop-in stop the way you might the others' sights.

Doha
2 nightsThe newest-feeling of the four post-2022 World Cup: the Museum of Islamic Art on its own promontory, the redeveloped Msheireb old-town district, and the dhow-lined Corniche facing West Bay's towers across the water. The souq Waqif is the best traditional-market experience of the whole loop after dark, when it's lit and full of shisha cafes.
Skip / overrated: The Pearl-Qatar's marina and boutiques are pleasant but generic luxury-mall territory - if you're short on time here, spend the hour at Souq Waqif and the Corniche instead.

What to skip
Don't try to bolt Oman's interior (Nizwa, Jebel Shams, the Wahiba dunes) onto the Muscat stop - it needs a 4x4 and a week of its own; see oman-interior-loop instead.
Practical tips
Book all four flights as separate one-way tickets rather than hunting for a single multi-city fare - Gulf low-cost carriers (flydubai, Air Arabia, SalamAir) often undercut the flag carriers on these short hops. Keep printed hotel confirmations for the Oman and Qatar e-visa applications.

Common questions
Do I need a different visa for each country?
Yes - UAE, Oman and Qatar each issue their own visas (commonly e-visa or visa-on-arrival depending on nationality), and none of the three covers entry to the others. Check each one separately before booking flights.
Is four cities in nine days too rushed?
It's brisk but workable at two nights each, since every leg is a short flight rather than a long overland transfer. The Short variant drops to seven days by trimming Dubai and Muscat to one night each; the Extended variant instead pushes on to 14 days by adding Saudi Arabia.
