Most Dubai visitors never realise Oman is a two-hour drive away - or that crossing into it gets you fjords, not desert. This route swaps Dubai's skyline for Musandam's mountains-into-sea coastline over a long weekend: stage in Dubai, break the drive in Ras al-Khaimah, cross the Tibat border, and spend a day on the water in Khasab before heading back. It's the honest short version of a UAE-Oman trip - not a compressed attempt at Oman's interior, which is a different, longer route.

Khasab (Musandam)

Skip / overrated: Don't try to add Kumzar village itself - it's boat-only, permit-gated, and not part of the standard cruise route; the dhow trip already gets you the fjord views without it.

What to skip
Don't try to squeeze in Muscat or Nizwa on top of this - they're a further 5-6 hour drive south of Khasab through a different, non-contiguous part of Oman (Musandam is a UAE-locked exclave), not a short add-on.
Practical tips
Sort Oman e-visa eligibility and rental-car Oman insurance before you leave Dubai - both are painful to arrange at the border itself. Carry a printed (not just digital) copy of the rental agreement's Oman cover, since border staff sometimes ask for it.

Do I need a separate visa for Oman if I already have a UAE visa?
Yes - a UAE visa does not cover Oman. Most nationalities can get an Oman e-visa in advance or a visa on arrival at the Tibat border; check your nationality's requirement before driving up.
Can I do this as a day trip from Dubai instead of overnighting?
It's possible with an early start and a booked day-tour dhow cruise, but it's a long day - two hours each way plus the border crossing. At least one night in Khasab is far more comfortable.
